Over one-third of British skiers and snowboarders choose France for their holiday each year. Almost double that of Austria. The reasons for this fact are abundant.
France possesses some of the best resorts in the world. The range of altitude is staggering with a wide range of differing regions to suit any level of skier, any group dynamic and any budget! French mountains really do offer a mixture of some of the wildest and toughest slopes as well as some of the gentlest and longest convenient runs for beginners.
Some resorts are purpose built and thus not too aesthetically pleasing, yet their pre-planned nature means they offer unparalleled convenience, a real boon for fanatical skiers. There are however, also some resorts that are beautiful and charming and still boast fantastic ski areas. Val D’Isere for example, which one of the most reputable ski areas in France if not the world. It’s picturesque village has featured on many a winter panorama.
For families and beginners alike, the gentle tree lined Morzine and Les Gets are brilliant. La Rosiere also fits into this category. For experts and powder hounds, Chamonix, Serre Chevalier, L’Espace Killy and the 3 Valleys are good options.
The highest resorts, for those looking slightly late in the season should perhaps stick to L’Espace Killy, Avoriaz, Courchevel, Val Thorens and the Paradiski region. Each resort differs of course in terms of liveliness and après ski opportunities with Meribel, Val D’Isere and Val Thorens holding a buzzing nightlife.
It’s best to ask the experts to see which resort really suits you best. France really can cater for all and holds solid reasons as to why it is the most popular ski country in the whole world.
