Ski Holidays in Andorra

Home to duty free alcohol, a great atmosphere, lots of sunshine and a surprisingly extensive ski area Andorra has been a popular with British for a number of years now and has been consistently updating its infrastructure to try and compete with France and Austria.

The ski areas in the largest resorts rival a lot of those in France with the stand out ones being Soldeu, Pas de la Casa and Arinsal. The après ski is generally quite lively in Andorra but the drinks prices can be a bit more expensive that you might think; the mountain restaurants have a great mix of Spanish and French cuisine so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Soldeu, linked with nearby El Tarter as well as lively Pas de la Casa is one of the most popular resorts in Andorra and has almost 200kms of piste to explore. Beginners and intermediates are very well catered for although advanced skiers may find themselves getting a little bored – snowboarders can enjoy the brilliant snowpark just above Riba Escorxada which has an all day party atmosphere as well as a BBQ when the sun is out. Apres ski isn’t hugely lively so if you want a few big nights out then you might want to consider Pas de la Casa instead.

Pas de la Casa is without doubt the liveliest resort in Andorra and hosts the annual ‘Pas Rocks’ festival on St Patricks Day weekend every year which sees hundreds of revellers descend on the resort for a serious party. The resort is up at 2100m so higher than Val d’Isere with skiing all the way up to almost 2600m – perfect for a cheap Easter getaway. There are two board parks in the area at Pas and Grau Roig for those who want to practice their freestyle.

Arinsal is one of the smaller resorts in Andorra but has some excellent skiing as well as hardly any queues! It’s also a great option for children with those aged under 11 getting a free lift pass in many hotels. In terms of activities there are some fantastic thermal springs in Caldea which are well worth a look – many of the tour operators will organise day trips as it’s only 9kms away! In terms of accommodation you are primarily looking at hotels which are available on a half board basis or a self catering apartment.

The catered ski chalet market hasn’t really taken off here in the same way as it has in Austria or France but do give one of our experts a call as availability changes throughout the year.
