Nestled within the spectacular Tarentaise Valley, Val d’Isère is twinned with the neighbouring resort of Tignes to form the expansive Espace Killy ski domain – one of the most famous in the world, and the ideal location for your group ski holiday on the snow. Val d’Isère set out on its path to becoming a world-class ski resort when they installed the first drag lift there, in the 1930’s, and since that day this beautiful alpine destination has gone from strength to strength.

In recent years, the resort has enjoyed comprehensive renovations and improvements, all designed to keep Val d’Isère ahead of the competition. From luxury chalets and hotels, options with travel included and independently-run properties, plus mid-range and budget properties as well, Val d’Isère is a resort with an outstanding range of accommodation to choose from.

If you’re considering Val d’Isère for your next alpine adventure, here are a few good reasons to jump in and give it a try. You'll also find helpful recommendations on where to stay, depending on your group's requirements.

For nightlife

Val d’Isère is a popular alpine destination for skiers and snowboarders looking to après as hard as they ski, and the resort is home to a dazzling array of piste-side venues, cocktail joints, pubs and nightclubs.

The sort of ski chalet or hotel to focus on of course depends on your group’s requirements, budget and travel plans. But if nightlife is the priority and easy access to the bars and clubs of Val d’Isère is needed you’ll find in Val d’Isère properties to suit a wide range of budgets.

Staying in or around town centre is the ideal, and properties such as the 5* luxury Aspen Lodge Sycamore Suite, the Cherrier or the 3* chalet Lores work wonderfully well. All offer catered chalet accommodation with a host on hand throughout your stay, and all take pride of place within easy reach of the bars, lifts and slopes – just a short stroll into town.

The welcoming and traditional chalet Lores is an ever-popular property in Val d’Isère

For families with children

Families requiring in-house childcare would be well advised to consider properties such as the 3* hotel Ducs de Savoie. This sizeable hotel offers fully en suite rooms, lifts to all floors, dedicated in-house nursery and childcare rooms and family suites, all within just a 300 metre stroll to the main lifts.

Family ski deals and last minute reductions are regularly available on this property and it’s available with a wide range of UK flights and transfers included. Aside from the Ducs de Savoie, Val d’Isère offers a range of other chalets where childcare add-ons are possible. There are also a good number of external childcare companies operating in resort able to meet a wide range of requirements.

Top-end Luxury

Whilst there are accommodation options available to suit those who don’t wish to break the bank, there are also choices for those with more expensive tastes. Up at 6* status, chalets such as the Toit du Monde, the Elephant Blanc and, above all, the Marco Polo offer jaw-dropping levels of sumptuous luxury.

Chalet l’Hotse is a stunning 6*property boasting impressive, state of the art facilities. Guests can enjoy movie screens which appear at the touch of a button, swimming pools with jet streams, two massage rooms and impressive wine cellars alongside fully en suite facilities and a level of luxury rarely seen. It sits piste-side in the la Daille area, offering faultless ski access.

The beautiful chalet Chardon welcomes skiers and snowboarders to Val d’Isère

To anyone who’s had the chance to look inside it, the chalet Marco Polo is quite possibly the single most impressive chalet you could come across. Spread over 600 square metres, the property sits right in town centre and offers a wonderful mix of privacy and easy access. The enormous, sumptuously decorated open-plan living area is opulence itself, with chandeliers handing from the ceiling and enormous central fireplace. It leads out onto an large balcony with beautiful mountain vista to enjoy. Aside from this, there’s a whole floor dedicated to pampering off-piste with hot tub, jet stream, sauna and relaxation area.

Ski in/out

Ski in/out properties are desirable for groups of all kinds as hassle-free ski access is a boon for all, and despite its spread-out nature, (or indeed perhaps because of it,) Val d’Isère has a massive range of piste-side properties to consider across all its different villages

The 6-bed chalet Daisy is a good example of a well located ski in/out property. Daisy is a 4* property with fully en suite rooms, located in the Rond Point des Pistes area near town centre. The chalet offers piste side location near the main chair and gondola lifts, with town centre just a short stroll away.

The Maison Rose is another 3* property also close to town centre – it sits around 375 metres from resort centre and offers a great option to families with children, who often need excellent piste as well as town access. It also works well for families because it offers two separate living areas.
