Pas de la Casa is a lively purpose-built resort situated on the French border, at the foot of Andorra’s largest ski area. The large nursery area is right in the resort centre, whilst intermediate skiers will delight in the wide variety of well-groomed pistes and long cruising runs. Pas also deserves its reputation as a snowboarding mecca with unpisted terrain, a dedicated snowpark and a halfpipe.

By day the resort’s bustling frontier atmosphere is fuelled by a wide selection of attractively priced duty-free goods available from its many shops. It’s after dark, however, that “Pas” really comes alive with a wild and colourful nightlife bursting from popular bars and pulsing discos, all at low prices.

Pas de la Casa is renowned for its decent nightlife and the bars, pubs and clubs in offer a great variety to suit all music tastes. There is even a bar where you can pour your own beer and the discos are open until the early hours. Pas de la Casa’s après scene attracts holiday makers such as stag weeks, hen parties and student trips to the resort.

Underground is a long standing favourite and the bar opens for an Après-ski session, welcoming visitors off the slopes and then again in the evening until very late. The owners are passionate about the mountain and offer a special Underground Snow Safari to quickly get you up to speed on the best ski slopes and powder runs of the Grandvalira. The trip is a great way to meet others and costs 25€ and includes drinks, dinner and a DVD of the day.

La Perla Negra is a pirate themed bar that can be replied on to show major sporting events on big screen tvs around the bar. There is also a pool table and Wifi connectivity. The informal atmosphere grows lively as the evening comes around and the bar’s resident DJ gets the party going.

Like every resort with an established après scene, Mulligan’s is Pas de la Casa’s predictable and cheery Irish bar.

Eating out

There’s a great variety of cuisine in the village restaurants whether you’re looking for local specialties and British pub grub. Local specialities include the Butifarra sausage, Crema catalane which is custard based pudding with a coating of burnt caramel and Xai al forn which is oven baked shoulder of leg of lamb. There are Spanish and tapas bars such as La Copa or La Perla Negra as well as all day breakfasts at Olimpiades Inn as well as a Burger King and Macdonalds.

The Underground Sports Bar & Grill is popular among tourists and will lure you in by the smell of the open grill offering homemade burgers, steaks and all cuts of meats. In addition to the friendly, lively atmosphere that make it a great place to grab a bite, the specialties here include the monster burger – if you eat the whole thing the reward is a free jagerbomb!

Similarly, the Kamikaze Surf Bar also has a predominantly grill based menu but offers fantastic slope-side views and more of a party vibe; the bar is open from 5pm – 3am.

El Gargantua is the place to suite all tastes. Its French and international cuisine includes fondues, grilled meats, pizzas and pastas. There is also a kids menu that has chicken nuggets, macaroni and pizzas.

Activities

The Apres-ski does not revolve around drinking in Pas de la Casa and there are plenty of activities to do off the slopes. You’ll also have your pick of virtually tax-free shops with great deals on ski gear, electronic goods and your favourite tipples.

The Centre Esportiu is a large leisure centre on the edge of resort and provides a great day or afternoon of fun for when you don’t fancy skiing. There is a big swimming pool, a kid’s pool, outdoor Jacuzzis, saunas, a steam room, gym, a climbing wall and squash courts. Entry is very reasonable, starting at a €3.10 day pass for children. You can also save money on a week pass for €9.30 for children and €21.75 for adults.

For more of a thrill, other things to do in Pas de la Casa include snow biking, ski-dooing, paint balling, ice skating or even go on a Helicopter ride; to book these excursions you need to go to the activity centre in Grau Roig.

Igloo building, snow-shoeing, archery, and dog sledding are just some of the family friendly activities on offer in Pas de la Casa. These activities can be booked online before your holiday.

As well as this, the Grandvalira ski school have specialised instructors for children aged 3-6. Children can take up group lessons or one-on-one tuition. Inflatable objects and a variety of colourful obstacles in the snow gardens provide a fun learning environment. The garden is located conveniently near terraces and cafes so that you can watch your child progress while enjoying a hot chocolate.
