Mammoth has consistently been voted one of the top ski and snowboard destinations in North America. It has one of the longest seasons anywhere in the world, opening from early November to June. In the middle of the Inyo National Forest, on the edge of wilderness, Mammoth might be a bit isolated, but with over 300 days of sunshine per year and 3,500 skiable acres (1,400 ha), it's practically guaranteed that you'll have a great time here.
Mammoth enjoys an extremely reliable snow record, with an average 400 inches (1,016 cm) per year, and snowmaking exists on 46 of the 150 trails. With over US$150 million invested in the resort in the last ten years, Mammoth is expanding. Specific improvements include the remodeled McCoy Station at mid-mountain, an ever-expanding lift system, and The Village at Mammoth, which opened in 2003.
Lively and varied, with at least one live band playing Mammoth every night. • Whiskey Creek Bar for great music, Slocum's - the locals' Clocktower Cellar Bar favourite, Shogun Restaurant for lively Karaoke and the Austriahof's Bar.
Great value steaks and seafood, plus huge variety from Mexican and Chinese to Italian and Swiss. • Matsu's for 'eclectic' Asian, Austriahof (German and American), Slocums (Italian) and the Mountainside Grill at the Mammoth Mountain Inn.
