Steamboat has increased its area by 40% over 4 years, making it a resort of large size by Colorado standards.
Steamboat often sells itself as a 'wild west' resort, which isn't the case for the modern Steamboat resort. However, the older Steamboat Springs town does keep some of it cowboy style. The skiing offers some reasonable piste for all, but not quite enough to keep everyone happy for too long.
Beginners have good nursery slopes and an good ski school, while intermediates have a limited amount of pistes to cruise.
Advanced skiers will love the wooded off-piste powder. Boarders of all standards have 2 specialist parks and 1 in 3 of all lift passes are sold to snowboarders.
The snow record is reliable, while there are comprehensive snowmaking facilities.
There is a superb choice - from the romantic to the lively, Steamboat has it all. The Old Town is quiet in the evening so head to the Base Lodge area where it is livlier. • Try the Tugboat, the Inferno and the Slopeside Bar and Grill.
Over 70 restaurants and bars of all types and every price range. • Try the Old West Steak House, Slopeside Bar and Grill, the Apogee, La Montana and Cottonwood Grill.
